Fixed

Crowns 

With crowns, the tooth is reduced from the sides and the top and then is capped with a fake tooth cemented in place. A crown restores the form and function of the original tooth. Crowns can be done in either tooth-colored materials (porcelain) or in metal (gold). There are several indications for a crown, including (but not limited to) teeth that are heavily restored and in danger of fracturing, teeth that are already cracked or fractured, teeth that have had root canal therapy, teeth that are severely worn from bruxing or grinding, and teeth that are severely discolored and not suitable for a veneer (see below). Bridges

A bridge is used when a patient is missing a tooth but has a tooth on either side. Both of those teeth can be prepared as for a crown, but instead of a single “cap”, a bridge connects all three teeth together and is cemented in place, thereby “bridging the gap.” Again, these can be either tooth-colored or metal.  Learn More.

Inlay/Onlay

Sometimes a back tooth needs to be restored, but may not require a full crown. In some of these instances, an inlay or onlay can be used to replace portions of a tooth. This is also sometimes a good option for the replacement of old fillings that have given a tooth an undesirable appearance. Learn More.

Veneer

A veneer may be a good option for front teeth, especially ones that are slight to moderately discolored or slightly misshapen. For a veneer, a small amount of tooth structure is removed from the front part of the tooth and replaced with a thin layer of porcelain that is then bonded to the tooth. This can be used to improve the appearance of the front teeth. Learn More.

Removable

Partial Dentures

A partial denture is used to replace several missing teeth in an arch. With a traditional partial denture, metal clasps are used to grab onto some of the remaining teeth to hold it in place. Acrylic is added to the metal framework to replace missing soft tissue (gums), and teeth are added to replace the missing teeth. Learn More.

Complete Dentures

A complete denture is used when a patient is missing all of his or her teeth in an arch. These consist of fake teeth in an acrylic base that simulates the lost soft tissue (gums). The size, shape, color, and positioning of the teeth is customized for each patient to provide optimum aesthetics and speech. Learn More.

Combined Fixed/Removable

In some instances, fixed and removable treatments can be combined. In these cases, some teeth are restored with crown and bridgework, while larger sections of missing teeth are replaced with a partial denture. Often in these instances, partial dentures can be directly attached to the crowns or bridges, thus removing the need for the metal clasps that often show with conventional partial dentures.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are titanium fixtures that are placed in the bone of the jaw. Once integrated into the bone, implants can be used to support fixed crowns and bridges, and complete and partial dentures.
