Benefits from an electric toothbrush VS a Manual Tooth Brush
A question we ask daily is “Do you use an electric toothbrush or a manual toothbrush?”
Manual toothbrushes are people powered; the person does back and forth circle motions and keeps track of the two minutes of brushing. Electric toothbrushes are battery operated and do the work for you. An electric toothbrush uses a vibrating, oscillating motion (rotation) or sonic technology. Studies have shown that powered toothbrushes are much more effective at removing plaque than manual toothbrushes, especially for patients with limited dexterity. They make it easier to get to areas that are hard to reach. Most of these types of toothbrushes come with timers that will keep you accountable for 2 minutes worth of brushing. Most newer models have pressure sensors that will alert you to when you are brushing too hard or too soft. This allows the brush and the user to be more effective at reducing plaque, keeping tooth and gum disease at bay.
Here in our dental office we sell the Oral-B Electric Toothbrushes. This brush uses an oscillating motion to clean the teeth. We carry two different versions in our office.
