Immediate Dentures vs. Traditional Dentures

Dentures-Teeth Mold- Local Colorado Springs Dentist

Comparing Immediate Dentures with Traditional Dentures

Most patients who come to us for dentures are referred because Dr. Patterson is a prosthodontist.

What is a Prosthodontist?

A prosthodontist Colorado Springs is a Dentist in Colorado Springs who specializes in restoring broken down or missing teeth. These restorations can be either fixed and removable.

Dr. Patterson does numerous dentures each month. Each case is unique to the patient but involves similar steps.

Whether you have dentures Colorado Springs and wish they would stay in place without adhesive, you have had dentures but need a new set, or you have been told your teeth are non-restorable and all need to be removed we are here to help.

What Are Immediate Dentures?

Immediate dentures replace your teeth immediately following getting all-natural teeth extracted.

Immediate dentures are made prior to your extraction appointment with an Oral Surgeon. It usually takes 3-4 short appointments to get the dentures ready. These appointments are initial impressions, final impressions, jaw relations, and wax-try-ins. Once the denture is approved for completion we help you get scheduled for your extractions with the oral surgeon. The oral surgeon is the one who initially places the denture after removing the teeth.

We see you afterward for adjustments.

What Are Traditional Dentures?

Traditional Dentures have similar appointments to immediate dentures.

Most patients who opt for traditional dentures already have a set. Patients get new dentures when their old ones are worn out, they have broken the previous set, or have just not been happy with their current set. These dentures can be made to fit very well and last many years. Some patients have implants placed on the upper and/or lower jaws and have their dentures snap onto the implants. Surgeons place the implants. Usually, 4 implants are placed in the upper jaw and 2-4 are placed in the bottom jaw.

What Denture Type Is Best For Me?

With either immediate or traditional dentures, we work closely with the surgeon on how many and where the implants will be placed.

Once the implants are fully healed and ready, we can modify the denture to attach to the implants. All dentures made in our local Colorado Springs, Colorado office go through the appointments above.

During the wax try-in we always make sure you like the denture before processing, as once they are processed, we cannot make changes without incurring additional costs.

Of course, we provide all needed to follow up and adjustments as patients get used to their new dentures.
