Bonding – One of the easiest and most affordable treatments
It’s commonly said that your smile is the first thing other people notice about you, so you want to make sure the grin you’re showing off is as attractive as possible.
At Mountain Springs Advanced Dental, our goal is to provide customized care for all aspects of your dental health, including the aesthetic appearance of your teeth. We offer a range of treatments to alter the color, shape, texture, and spacing of your teeth to suit a variety of budgets and preferences.
One of the easiest and most affordable treatments available in Colorado Springs is cosmetic dental bonding.
What Is Cosmetic Dental Bonding?
Cosmetic bonding is the application of a tooth-colored resin that can be used to improve the aesthetic appearance of a tooth’s surface. It’s a conservative treatment — little to no natural tooth structure is removed — which makes it a great starting point for patients who want a noticeable improvement without a larger investment of time or cost.
What to Expect During the Procedure
During the procedure, Dr. Patterson will begin by roughening the surface of the receiving tooth and painting it with a conditioning liquid, which helps the bonding material adhere to the tooth. He’ll then select a resin color that closely matches your natural tooth. The putty-like resin is molded to the tooth’s surface to alter or conceal the desired irregularity, and an ultraviolet curing light hardens the resin before Dr. Patterson carefully polishes and shapes the finished result. The entire cosmetic dental bonding process takes roughly 30 to 60 minutes — most patients are in and out in a single appointment.
Cosmetic Bonding Is Commonly Used For:
- Replacing visible silver fillings
- Repairing chipped or cracked teeth
- Improving the appearance of stained teeth
- Changing a tooth’s length or shape
- Closing gaps between teeth
- Protecting sections of a tooth’s root if exposed due to gum recession
How Long Does Dental Bonding Last?
With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, bonding typically lasts several years before it may need touch-ups or replacement. Because the resin isn’t quite as stain-resistant as porcelain, patients who drink a lot of coffee, tea, or red wine may notice it needs refreshing sooner than a veneer would.
Is Bonding or a Veneer Right for You?
Bonding is a great fit for small-to-moderate cosmetic fixes—a chip, a gap, a bit of discoloration—and it costs less and takes less time than a veneer. If you’re dealing with more significant staining, larger chips, or want a longer-lasting, more stain-resistant result across several teeth, a porcelain veneer may be the better long-term investment. During your consultation, Dr. Patterson will walk you through which option makes the most sense for your goals and budget—you can also learn more about our veneers in Colorado Springs.
